Exploring the stories of women who live by a ride-or-die philosophy

The Mixtape

One of the first way’s that the term ride-or-die chick became popularized was through rap music in the 90’s. As part of the research process, we went back and listened to a lot of this music to help determine who defined what a ride-or-die chick was and how they went about doing that.  As part of our self-care package for the individuals that shared their stories with us, we wanted to provide them with a soundtrack filled with voices that recognized, articulated and affirmed many of the themes that arose during the interviews.

In collaboration with the world-renowned deejay crew Roots Redemption, we created The Ride or Die Project Mixtape Vol. 1 (to download, click HERE):

* Important Note: This mixtape is a compilation of music, poetry and scenes that have inspired our process in various ways. None of the artists featured are formally associated with the project.
